The Cleveland Cavaliers will put their perfect 14-0 start to the test on Sunday when they host the Charlotte Hornets (6 p.m. ET, League Pass).
They’ll have to do it without five-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell. The leading scorer for Cleveland will take the night off after averaging 24.6 points with 4.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 14 games so far. Even without their star, the Cavs are playing with energy and connectivity that’s only building their confidence and trust in new coach Kenny Atkinson, who inherited a great situation and is only making it better.
Entering the 2024-25 season, the NBA had only seen five teams begin a season 14-0. Now, the Cavaliers are the sixth, and a win tonight would make them just the fourth squad to start 15-0, matching the second-best start the league has ever seen.
Cleveland’s 14-game winning streak is the longest in the club’s 55-year existence. The Cavs won 13 in a row three times when LeBron James played for them.
As for the Hornets, they take on the Cavs on the second night of a back-to-back after defeating the Bucks 115-114. Charlotte guard LaMelo Ball led the way against Milwaukee, pouring in 19 of his 26 points in the second half Saturday.
