Entering Friday's matchup, the 76ers are set to face off against the Nets at Wells Fargo Center. McCain is anticipated to continue in his role as the starting shooting guard, pairing up with Tyrese Maxey in the backcourt. The game is scheduled for 7 PM ET and will be available to watch on League Pass.
The numbers back up his status as a starter, as he’s averaging 25.8 points, 5.8 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals across 36.8 minutes per game since joining the first unit.
It’s not just about the production since being promoted to a starting role.
He’s on a streak of six consecutive appearances with at least 20 points, and seven with 15 or more points. He’s also averaged 19.8 points per game, while shooting 48.3% from the field and 43.2% from 3-point range since November.
Despite being a rookie, he’s earned a steady role in an offense that needs all the help it can get to overcome a slow start. And even though the season hasn’t gone as expected, the emergence of McCain as a potential long-term core piece could end up being a blessing in disguise for the 76ers.
